India 81-63-164 LPGA Tournament of Champions Pacers' O'Neal fined $5,000: Pacers forward Jermaine O'Neal was fined $5,000 for criticizing the officiating during Indiana's 78-76 home loss to Boston. The fine was announced by the NBA yesterday before the Pacers' home game against Seattle. O'Neal apologized a day earlier for criticizing Indiana fans who booed during Tuesday's loss. Mutombo leaves with groin injury: New York center Dikembe Mutombo left with a groin injury during the first quarter of the Knicks' game with the New Jersey Nets last night.
LaFrentz on injured Est The Boston Celtics placed center Raef LaFrentz on the injured list with right knee tendinitis. He will miss a minimum of five games. The earliest LaFrentz could return is Nov. 26. Warriors sign forward: Sean Lampley signed with the injury-plagued Golden State Warriors, who received their second special roster exemption in two days because of injuries.
Lampley played last season with the Miami Heat, who released him last month. -NEWSSERVICES Bulls guard Jamal Crawford was released from the hospital yesterday with a sprained neck, a day after falling on his head during a game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Tests at Rush University Medical Center revealed no further damage, Bulls spokesman Brandon Faber said. There's no timetable for his return and he will be evaluated daily, Faber added. Bulls trainer Fred Tedeschi said the guard was taking anti-inflammatory medication for the soreness.
"We'll probably know more tomorrow," Tedeschi said. "He's listed day to day until we get a better handle on it." Crawford was guarding former teammate Fred Hoiberg with about 10 minutes to play Thursday night when Hoiberg faked left and Crawford jumped. He and Hoiberg collided while Crawford was in the air, and he came down on Hoiberg's upper back. He tumbled backward and landed on the back of his head, just above his neck. His head snapped forward, his chin hitting his chest.
Crawford winced and rolled over as the crowd gasped. But he was fully conscious and able to move and answer questions.
