Jean Wade Rindlaub, one of the first U.S. women to become a major advertising executive, died Thursday at the Courtland Garden Health Center in Stamford. She was 87 and lived in Stamford. She died of complications from a stroke, her family said. Mrs.

Rindlaub, in 34 years at the Batten, Barton, Durstine Osborn agency in Manhattan, rose to the head of a copy group and in 1946 became a vice president, the first woman at that level in the company. In 1954, she became the first woman on the company board. When the clerk started ringing up the purchase, the man said that he had a gun and told the clerk to put money in the bag.

The clerk complied, and the man ran from the store with the money, some leotards, tights and a warmup suit in two bags. He ran from the mall through the pavilion exit, police said. "'The guy looked legitimate they didn't suspect him of anything," Greene said. "He looked like he was picking his stuff up for Christmas."
